In May we posted on the Deployment Health Clinical Center’s (DHCC) Track II program, which helps recent veterans who were deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom and experience operational stress, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or disabling symptoms associated with their recent combat deployment.

In addition to our Track II program, we offer the Specialized Care Program (SPC) Track I, an intensive treatment program designed to address medically unexplained and disabling physical symptoms experienced by service members following deployment or other military exposure. Referral by a doctor or designated provider is required.

The state-of-the-art programs align directly with DHCC’s mission to improve deployment-related health by providing caring assistance and medical advocacy for military members and families with deployment-related health concerns.

Based upon internationally-recognized best practices for the management of chronic pain, the Track I program provides patients with care for symptoms such as:

·         fatigue

·         memory loss

·         unexpected weight changes

·         sleep problems

·         joint pain

·         skin rash

·         digestive problems

The three-week intensive program places patients into small groups of three to eight individuals and runs Monday through Friday. Multidisciplinary treatment is offered by a team of clinicians from the following specialties:

·         internal medicine

·         psychiatry

·         psychology

·         social work

·         physical therapy

·         nursing

Comprehensive program goals for patients, which set the pace for this outpatient treatment include:

improving physical conditioning and decreasing symptoms, including involving each participant in creating their own symptom management plan improving work performance and other daily living activities promoting overall well-being and better coping skills through practicing positive health behaviors and skills If you or a loved one is interested in participating in the program, admission is available to members of all armed services as well as family members who have medically unexplained physical symptoms attributed to deployment or other military exposure and for which a health care provider can find no specific cause.
