Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment

Eligibility  
  • Must have a service-connected disability of at least 20% with an employment handicap or 10% disability with a serious employment handicap
 

o   Employment handicap decision is made by VA counselor

 
  • Be discharged or released under other than dishonorable conditions
  • Have taken the VA aptitude test
  • Be approved by the VA for a specific program leading to employment
Benefits 
  • Independent Living Program
 
    • Services to address any personal and / or family adjustment issues
    • Independent living skills training
    • Connection with community-based support services
    • Assistive technology
    • Specialized medical, health, and / or rehabilitation services
 
  • Education and training at academic institution or vocational school if approved
 

o  Monthly subsistence allowance of varying amounts depending on training time  (i.e. full-time, ¾ time, etc.) and number of dependents

o Pays for tuition, fees, books and supplies

o Up to 48 months of full-time equivalent may be provided

o The veteran must complete the program within 12 years of separation or       notification of VA eligibility
