Eligibility
· From 100% to 40% of benefits (see below) depending on length of active duty after 9/11
o Max of 100% for 36 months service down to 40% for 90 days
o Obligated service time for Academy/ROTC scholarship grads does not count
· Service time waived if discharged due to service-connected disability
· Did not have to opt in for MGIB
· Have a high school diploma or GED
· Honorable discharge

· Entered active duty after 6/30/1985
· Had military pay reduced by $100/month for first 12 months of service
· Continuously served for 3 years or 2 years if that is what enlisted for (benefits are lower)
· Have a high school diploma or GED
· Honorable Discharge

Social Security Benefits for Wounded Warriors
(Separate from VA benefits)
Eligibility
· You must be unable to do substantial work because of your medical condition(s); and
· Your medical condition(s) must have lasted, or be expected to last, at least one year or be expected to result in death
· In some cases, dependents may also be eligible for benefits
· Active duty status and receipt of military pay does not, in itself, prevent payment of Social Security benefits

Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment
Eligibility
- Must have a service-connected disability of at least 20% with an employment handicap or 10% disability with a serious employment handicap
- Employment handicap decision is made by VA counselor
- Be discharged or released under other than dishonorable conditions
- Have taken the VA aptitude test
- Be approved by the VA for a specific program leading to employment
